Some Favorites: Meg’s Family Photoshoot

Morgan Family-0448-web

Do they belong in a catalog or what?

I was incredibly honored to be asked to photograph Meg and her beautiful family a few weeks ago.

I’ve known Meg since our days at Wood’n Horse Stables. She is now a wife, a mother, and has just moved to an incredible barn. I’m so happy for her!

Meg and Boss-0032-BW-web

One of my new personal favorites of my entire collection.

We started off with Meg and her horse Boss, who was very well behaved and photogenic! I have to thank my mom for being my “ears” expert. It was great to have her along to watch me work.

Meg herself was fascinating. Even when her hair was blowing crazy in the wind, she looked like a model. All of her photos were stunning.

So. Pretty.

Meg and Tommy’s daughter, Maggie, is an absolute doll.

Morgan Family-0151-web

Maggie loves to look for mushrooms (and pick them, not eat them). That was a great activity for her to do, and I was very impressed that a not-yet 2-year-old could follow instructions like “put it in your right hand.” What a smart girl!

Morgan Family-0316

Somewhat unconventional as a portrait, but my favorite of the bunch. Very Andrew Wyeth.

I have to give a shout-out to Tommy, who was such a good participator! Sometimes it can take some work to get husbands engaged in a photoshoot, but Tommy rocked. He had a great attitude and “followed” his family around, standing in just the right spot all the time, smiling adoringly.

We started to lose Maggie after about a half hour, so she was cut loose and decided on her own to climb the fence, which resulted in some great shots! I love how the unplanned moments are often the best.

This was not a posed shot! Completely natural.

Thank you to Meg and her lovely family. We had great fun and I hope to work with them again!

Little Kentucky Farm Fall Photoshoots

LKF Howie-2_web

Currently for sale: Playitagain Howie, a four-year-old Thoroughbred after my own heart.

I feel very fortunate to have been the unofficial official photographer of Little Kentucky Farm for several years. Owner Zeb Fry and I always have a good time working together with the horses to capture special moments on camera. Our goal is always to make sure the horse’s personality comes across in the pictures.

Most of Zeb’s sale horses are quality Thoroughbred ex-racehorses, but one of our earliest shoots together was for Stella Luna, a stunning Trakehner mare we would have much rather kept for ourselves than sold. This mare was unbelievable on camera and remains one of my favorite photoshoots ever.

Leslie and Louie!

Sometimes I’m lucky enough to get to ride one of Zeb’s horses. This is me on Louie, who’s registered name is Eor the Terrific. How amazing is that? He does have pretty incredible ears. Click the link on his name to see his pedigree, which is full of distance influence.

Currently for sale: Louie has a lovely, easy canter.

I’ve always loved bringing along young horses. There is so much gratification when they learn, making it almost impossible to have a dull ride. I’m so impressed with Louie. He’s an old soul, and at three years old he behaves like a veteran. I’d sure like to ride him again myself, but I’d feel comfortable putting my mom on his back and sending them out into the hunt field. This horse will be able to take his rider wherever he or she wants to go.

Check out the gallery below for a couple of my favorite photos from Howie and Louie’s shoots last weekend as well as LKF sale horse Cruz Control’s photoshoot earlier this year, and make sure to visit for more information on these three horses. Fey’s Birthday Pictures

Finally, FINALLY. I’ve had this girl since mid-June and it took me this long to take reasonable photos of her. But, I really think she’s blossomed in the last several weeks, so the timing was right for her glamour shots. She also had her fourth birthday on August 31. But I’m a bad mom and totally forgot to make her a cake.

This is not an ideal conformation shot (above) because she’s parked out all silly with her right hind, but I think she looks just gorgeous anyway. She has such a lovely long neck and great proportions. But then again I’m biased.

I think Fey has a very distinct eye and facial structures that remind me of Sam and Camden (Cor Magnifique, Fey’s sire) and all the others from the Gosch clan… intelligent and wise. She’s an old soul.

Fey loved having her own photoshoot and posed nicely for the camera when she wasn’t getting snuggles from Katie.

I remember reading her story and watching a video of her when she was born. It’s crazy to think she’s with me now. She’s so friendly and a joy to have around. I think she’s going to be a wonderful mom!

Newman/Davis Family Photos

Several years ago I photographed my friend Jennifer and her husband Allen’s wedding anniversary photos and posted several of my favorites on this blog. They have since had two boys, Ben and Luke, and I was delighted to shoot some family photos at Jen’s parent’s farm, which is a gorgeous location for pictures year-round.  Here are some of my favorites from that shoot.

This is actually one of my favorite pics in the bunch. It was the first photo and one of those “happy accidents.” It wasn’t until editing that I realized Jen and Allen were in the background with Luke in the their arms as Ben went wild on the farm.

The photos of Ben and his grandfather were so very sweet and genuine.

“Luke, will you smile for mommy?”

Jennifer and I have been friends for a very long time. She is an amazing, beautiful mother.

A country boy at heart, Ben LOVES the tractor. He couldn’t get to it fast enough, and the pictures we got there were my favorites of the whole session.

Ben and his dad, Allen.

I love this picture – it’s one big group hug. Plus, the kids are quiet, Ben is looking ahead, Allen is grinning wide…Success! Jennifer had this one made into a large canvas print and hung it above the fireplace in their home.

After the session had ended, Ben was allowed to run wild again. He hasn’t quite figured out how to go forward down the steps, so he scoots down backwards, which turned out to be a great candid photo op!

Jen and Allen are soon to celebrate 7 years of marriage. Thanks for the honor of taking your family photos!

Horse of the Year Cover

I’m delighted to have one of my photos used for the USEA Horse of the Year cover two years in a row! Hannah and I love this picture of RF Demeter at The Fork last year and had it picked out for the cover well in advance. You can see a bigger selection of my Published Images by clicking the “Photography” link at the top of the page.

All the Bambies

It has just started lightly snowing again. I looked out the window to see a small herd of deer moving between the fields, so I quietly opened the front door and snapped a few photos from the porch.

I love where I live. It’s unbelievably beautiful all the time.

Dragons! This thing I made..

Because I was making it as a gift, I had to wait until it was gifted to show it off.

I finally finished painting the dragon! Rawr!

I found the before photo! Here is the dragon still in pieces and primed.

I didn’t keep great track, but I probably put 20ish hours into it total.

It’s technically a Warhammer “Dreadlord on Black Dragon.” Clearly, this dragon is not black, and there is no dreadlord atop it.

That’s because I don’t follow instructions.

Do you like how I did a fancy photoshoot with the finished product? Me too!
